My PS3 has always run smoothly during its life and I’ve never had any problems with it, Until now.
Last night while playing GT5 My PS3 kept freezing approx 2 mins into a race. It was during a Seasonal Event race. I later tried doing a normal single player race and the same problem occurred, I also tried a Bspec race and whadda ya know, same freeze result.
I tried different cars, set-ups and tracks and it still froze. I thought it was maybe the game as it did not freeze while playing any other games so this got me thinking it was the last GT5 update or the game itself. I cleaned a single finger print from the disc but that didn’t work.
Today I woke up hoping it would just work fine but I got the same result. It was then I thought about rebuilding my PS3′s database and it worked.
So if you have a problem with a game that keeps freezing your PS3 I recommend you try this.

Activating Safe Mode
Step 1: Turn off the PLAYSTATION 3 by holding the Power button on the front of the unit till the Power light is red.
Step 2:
- Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, meaning the PLAYSTATION 3 is powering on.
- Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset.
- Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (Power light is red).
Step 3:
- Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the PLAYSTATION 3 to power on.
- Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.
- Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, “Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button.”
- Connect a USB cable to the controller and the PLAYSTATION 3 and press the PS button to enter Safe Mode.
- Then you will see the Safe Mode menu.
Step 4: Select Rebuild Database and follow the instructions and whatever you do, DO NOT turn off your PS3 while its rebuilding the database.

I’m playing Battlefield 3, mine crashed occassionally, now updated (Nov/Dec) with new Ps3 update and Battlefield, mines crashed sh*t loads, didn’t manage to play one full game today.

it sometimes takes time. if you think it freezes be patient and wait. it might continue.
SORTED IT, Spoke to Sony, Step 1, Game Data Utility, deleted BF3 file- played again still froze a few time but better, so Step 2, Take Ps3 to safe mode (in standby, hold playstation but down first bleeps, second bleeps then third, playstion will go back to standby- this time hold down again, through first, second and on the third bleep let go, this should take you to safe mode) here pick option 3 ( file rebuild) hopefully this will sort it. you could maybe try option 2 first as it quicker than downloading the update again, unless you have super fast broadband, unlike me

So my ps3 is doing something i dont know about. i play mw3 and when i get into a game it goes really slow for the first 10 seconds then freezes and makes me leave the game, its says lost connection to host so i go back to the matchmaking screen and it says waiting for players in lobby and stays there i try and leave and ti freezes for 2 minutes than logs me out of playstation network. then i log back in and it does the same thing it never stops i can play a single game onlin. and i check the internet connection and it says its working just fine. can somebody help me?

It’s annoying, Battlefield3 does it on mine all the time…first it was just random freeze once few games, but now it seems fail on loading screen when starting games. Most of times rebuilding database works but last time it didn’t – I found similar way that brought it back on – during the freeze turn ps3 off by main switch at the back, put it back on and let it restart and restore file system – should be ok.
Rebuilding database deletes ONLY mp3 playlists, messages and other crp You usually don’t need, no worries, all ranks/trophies are safe as they are kept on servers independently.
Your game data will not be deleted, because most games have servers which also saves your data

Same for me. It worked on my first ps3 (first generation) no problem. But when I switched to a brand new ps3, it started freezing
it has been doing on my ps3 too. I also get something like disk read error.I play and around the 5 minute mark it freezes. Hey Guys, I have been I have been having familiarly issues but mine has not been tied to a specific game, it has happened across a few games,
For example a lot of people are moaning that their BF3 games freezes i have not had one occasion where my BF3 freezes in MP or SP mode.
My PS3 in facts only freezes when I play games that I have downloaded.
So i feel that I might have some corrupted files on my PS3 so I am going to give this solution a try that you guys mentioned but i am going to back up my PS3 before I attempt it because if it does get any worse i will just do a full format of my console.

Turn off your internet untill the system loads then connect it. The xmb will load fine. If your are downloading something cancel it befor reconnecting the internet. Then befor continuing dls do the steps above(safe mode thing)

Its heating issues guys. Google it up! lol Yall most likely have something blocking the vents in your playstation like I did. It did it for me on mass effect and once for Batman Arkham city never on Battlefield 3 or any game before. Its cause we dont leave enough room for the playstation to breathe either- As circulation of air is important

You get some people that are very much unintelligent, all online gameplay of all games are stored online, becouse you cannot enter that profile until you are logged int your online profile. People you dhould be more observative in the future.

I was playing mw3 on the map SEA TOWN with my friends 2 weeks ago it started freezing every 10 minutes it was freezing every time in the middle of the game then after that i was offline for 3 days and when i came back it was starting normally but now it was freezing when the screen was blue and was starting every time so i decided to go to the menu where u get 6 options so i went on youtube to watch a video and i chose option 3 to restore and when it went to 27% and stopped i had to wait 1 day and 12 hours for it to finish and after i checked i got the same error to restore again every time i got the same thing every single time so after a few days i phoned SONY for help because it was really confusing they told me to restore the system i cant do that because am really high levels in all games but i did it and it dident work to??? please could u help me ans ware my question please guys.

Someone anyone help. Recently when I get into an online game of Mw3 my ps3 will freeze during or at the end of the game. After when I turn my ps3 it doesn’t turn off, instead the green button will just flash and it will not power off. Eventually after waiting 20 mins I pulled the plug from the back of it to turn off. When I turn my PlayStation back on it doesn’t read any disc. After I wait about 30 minutes I turn my PlayStation back on. It will read the disc but then it will happen again. Please please help. You do not lose any game data/trophies etc. you will only use saved music playlists and mail, things that will not matter.

Also can be the music ur playing. Same thing was happening to me. I deleted a file of music my brother had on the ps3. Presto! Worked perfectly. Turned out one of his songs was corrupted. Hope this helps.

This happened to me while playing hitman absolution. After getting annoyed of it freezing I just turned it off. The next day when I went on it said that it had to do a quick check up to see if any files are corrupt and it might take 2 to 3 hours. After that I put in the disk for hitman and at the loading screen it said I had to start a new game file. I went to the games saved data and it was a corrupted file. Any help on how I can get back my data from hitman.
